Hello Kansas City! My name is Karie Fahrenholz and I am the founder, organizer and woman behind the curtain of KC Local Week. I was born and raised in the area, and live in the Northland with my husband and our wondermutt. (A personal shout out to my husband, Dane Johnson. He is the driving force behind KC Local Week. Literally. He drives me everywhere.)

I'm an avid runner which supports my other favorite habit of being an avid eater. I've always loved exploring all of the local restaurants, bars, and shops, and decided that I wanted to try and get more people into the habit of supporting their community by looking locally first. Viola, the KC Local Week Challenge was born.

One of the things I love most about Kansas City is that it's surrounded by a community of growers, producers and entrepreneurs that are dedicated to keeping their products local and delivering them to their consumers.  The goal of the KC Local Week Challenge is to introduce, or reintroduce, you to what the greater Kansas City community has to offer. Commit to a level of involvement that's most comfortable for you. Whether that's one meal a day or going whole hog, I want you to find out what the city has to offer!

I developed this event as a grass roots effort, so its success or failure is dependent on community participation, or, in other words, you! Thanks to everyone and anyone willing to give it a try, whether it's a day, a week, or extending it to an entire month.
